CupcakesEverywhere.com's Top 5 Cupcakes of 2012

I love annual lists, whether it’s the radio playing the top hits of 2012, Entertainment Weekly discussing the top picks in entertainment or all of the delicious blogs and sites I following that discuss their favorite treats and sweets of 2012…I’m there! And after spending 2012 eating cupcakes, visiting cupcake shops and attending dessert events all over the country, I thought it was time I created a list too! Without further ado, CupcakesEverywhere.com’s Top 5 cupcakes of 2012!

# 5 – Kara’s Cupcakes’ Sweet Vanilla

I have to admit, vanilla cupcakes are my #1 favorite. Every shop I go to I have to try them, it’s just something about the sweet, simple deliciousness of a vanilla cupcake that gets me every time and when I was in San Francisco earlier this year it was no different. Kara’s Sweet Vanilla has a light, fluffy cake and delicious, generous vanilla butter cream icing on top. But what really takes the cake is that the cupcake is rolled in vanilla sprinkles! It really makes the cupcake sweet, hence the awesome title: Sweet Vanilla!

# 4 – Wild Flour’s Cookie Dough Cupcake

As you can tell from the picture, I almost missed my photo op because I starting eating this delicious treat immediately. Luckily my wife was there to make sure we got the picture. Wild Flour’s Cookie Dough Cupcake has a huge cookie dough ball inside, making the entire cupcake eating experience amazing! I love the moist cake, the light, delicious frosting, but the cookie dough ball, OH MY…keeps me coming back every time!

# 3 – Southern Girl's Dessert: Sweet Potato Cupcake

I wish I was more adventurous, I remember eating a pickle cupcake in Panama City, FL and I remember thinking, A) eewww and B) this is why I don’t venture far out of my comfort zone, but when I saw Southern Girl’s Sweet Potato Cupcake I had to muster the courage and try something new and I was not disappointed! This decadent cupcake is super moist and there is nothing artificial out those sweet potatoes, you can even see them in the picture! Thanks to the Southern Girls I’m willing to try new things, just not pickles in a cake.

# 2 – Crumbs Toffee Coffee Cupcake

I was debating on taking Crumbs out of the race since they are in my neighborhood and visit them so frequently, but I couldn’t do it! Every time I post a picture of a cupcake, write about cupcakes or dream about cupcakes (yes, I dream about them!) Crumb’s Toffee Coffee always seems to find a way into the picture. Crumbs cupcakes are huge, icing portions massive and while others think it’s too much, if you ask me, it’s not enough. I’m all about going big or going home and Crumbs always goes big! The rich, moist vanilla cake, the surprising sweet caramel in the center and the coffee butter cream are all over the top amazing. Then Crumbs hits it out of the park with rolled toffee pieces and caramel on top! There isn’t even caramel mention in the cupcake title, Crumbs just does it big and gives you what you want. I love it!

# 1 – GiGi’s Wedding Cake Cupcake

I told you earlier that I love vanilla so it was only fitting that my # 1 choice was vanilla, on top of vanilla with a little more vanilla. This cupcake has all of the components of a champ: moist, rich cake…sweet, delicious icing and just a hint of vanilla sprinkles and pieces perfectly placed on the cupcake. But what makes the champ our number one selection, the serving of icing is just as big, if not bigger, than the cake! My best friend complained about GiGi’s icing to cupcake ratio once and it almost ending out 14 year friendship. I love it and I want more of it! I went to GiGi’s in Las Vegas and I could have taking the cupcake to a chapel and married it! And then once I returned to SoCal and saw that there are GiGi’s all over the country I realized that this is just the beginning…cupcakes with crazy icing portions all over the country. Deal. It’s on and I’ll be back on the road in 2013 in no time!

Thanks for checking out our Top 5 of 2012. I can’t wait to start consuming cupcakes across the country in 2013! If you have any recommendations of places to go, let us know! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Cupcake Crawl - Orange County, CA!

It’s been way too long since I’ve sat down and wrote about cupcakes! This would explain why my life has seemed so sour and lacking sweetness, I need more cupcakes in it! Well kids, without further ado, I bring to your Cupcake Crawl OC!

My wife and I live 30+ miles from Orange County, CA so this wasn’t a huge trek to get down there, but there are so many cupcake locations in California that I had to schedule this! My wife and I went to the OC for several reasons, 1) I had to visit some delicious, sun-soaked,” beachy” cupcakeries. B) I was running an Anaheim Angels 5K at the stadium, and 3) we were visiting some friends at their church down in Anaheim, CA. I’m all about multitasking, especially when there are cupcakes involved. Check out the pictures below and I hope you enjoy!

The Perfect Circle Cupcakery is located in an adorable little shopping district. There were a ton of shops, neat little parks and a lot of people outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

Look how adorable the shop is! Cool cupcake décor, bright baby blue colors and the sweet smell of icing and cake. It’s like walking into heaven. Oh, and the icing on the cake, they were winners on the Food Network’s CUPCAKE WARS!

I also dragged my wife over to visit The Sugar Me Bakery. Their cupcakes are housed inside of a restaurant, which means dinner and dessert, a one stop shop. That’s my kind of night out on the town.

And the cupcakes were gigantic! You are looking at the cupcakes I purchased to take back on my ride to Los Angeles, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that my fork delved into the box way before we hit the highway. Nothing like moist red velvet and marble cupcakes to make a traffic filled drive up the Coast bearable.

Last, but not least…WildFlour Cupcakes! I can’t say enough about this place. Delicious cupcakes, beautiful, clean store and for the first time…icing shots! Literally icing in a cool, kid-like syringe. So good….

And my icing syringe…

Coming soon, Cupcake Camp Hononlulu!
